Hard water spots are caused by large amount of calcium and magnesium in your water. These minerals leave limescale deposits or hard water spots, on your glass and ceramic tile floors. As soon as hard water spots become an unsightly observance in your kitchen or bathroom it's time to clean them away! If you leave hard water spots on your surface for long periods of time they can and will leave permanent stains.
You will notice hard water spots anywhere you have water! Hard water spots appear on glass, fiberglass, porcelain enamel, china, chrome, tile and stainless steel. If you have hard water it is important to clean often.

One of the few cleaning tips & tricks for tough hard water spots is a 50/50 water and white vinegar mixture. On flat surfaces you can soak a clean rag in the water and vinegar mixture, start by wiping the area down and then rewetting the rag and letting the rag sit on the area for several minutes. Lift the rag and wipe clean with a dry towel.
If you are cleaning hard water spots from a shower door, then put the water and white vinegar mixture into a spray bottle. Spray the door and wipe clean several times to break down the limescale. Vinegar will deactivate and actually bind with the calcium and magnesium, making it possible to break down and clean. Lemon juice is also a good natural product to combat limescale.
If you have a more serious hard water spot problem you can use an acid approach, but be sure to wear protective eyewear and gloves. Sulfuric, phosphoric and hydrochloric acids will all help remove hard water spots from your surfaces. The harsh chemicals are often used by professional cleaning companies. Be sure to carefully read the instructions prior to using acids to clean hard water spots.
Many products are sold in home improvement store for hard water spot removal. Be sure to read the label and look for an acid based cleaner if you have difficult hard water spots.
